At Women’s Health Specialists of Dallas, women can access a wide range of sonography services. Depending on your needs, your physician can use a sonogram for:

Early Pregnancy Ultrasounds

If you’re in the first, second, or third trimester of your pregnancy—or if you want to confirm an early pregnancy—a sonogram is the most accurate method for detection. The scan helps you identify your specific date of conception and your eventual due date.

Second and third-trimester fetal anatomy scans help your physician determine if your baby is developing normally. You can also get a nuchal translucency ultrasound, which is performed around the 12th week of pregnancy. This scan helps to diagnose chromosomal conditions such as Down Syndrome.

3D Ultrasounds

A 3D ultrasound is an excellent way to image your uterus to see a clear picture of your baby’s face and body. The optimal time for 3D pictures is between 28 and 30 weeks of pregnancy.

You can also take home the images and a DVD of the scan–known as a 4D ultrasound–so you can share them with family and friends.

A 3D ultrasound can also help to diagnose uterine anomalies, such as a septate or bicornuate uterus.

Gender Detection

Within 14-15 weeks of pregnancy, it’s usually possible to determine the gender of your baby with an ultrasound. Your physician can perform this scan the same day as a normal visit.
